Bönan

Bönan is a genuine fishing village with many trappings from the 1800’s. At the turn of the century the fishing village changed considerably becoming increasingly a summer paradise for Gävle’s wholesale merchants who lived here in their magnificent houses. Many of these old houses still remain and the most magnificient of them all, Engeltofta, has become a popular restaurant.

Since the middle of the ‘50’s fishing has continuously decreased in importance and nowadays only a handful of professional fishermen remain in Bönan. You can however, still buy the renowned "böcklingen", smoked herring, from the fishermen in the village. There are also a little café and a handicrafts shop in Bönan.
